Living worlds · Chazz.ai

Living worlds on Chazz.ai: characters take their own beats while you are not typing, the scene changes on its own, and the whole thing can be paused. What it does, what it costs, and how to switch it off.

A living world on Chazz.ai keeps moving between the reader's turns: characters act on their own, the scene changes, and events accumulate whether or not anybody types. It is a per-conversation setting, it is off by default, and it can be paused at any point.

What "living" means here

In an ordinary chat, nothing happens until you press send. The world is a photograph that animates for one reply and then freezes again. A living world runs beats between your turns: a character goes somewhere, decides something, or acts on what you did last, and you find out when you come back.

Those beats are narrated as events in the world, never as your turn. That distinction sounds pedantic and is the whole thing: a system that writes your character's actions for you has taken the story away from you.

Controls

Living worlds compose with everything else: memory, personas, modifiers, lore packs and multiplayer rooms all behave the same way inside one.

  • It is off unless you turn it on, per conversation.
  • Pause stops the world where it is and nothing drifts while you are away.
  • How autonomous the cast is, and how far they may go without you, is a setting rather than a fixed personality of the system.
  • Every beat is a priced action and shows its cost, so a world cannot quietly spend a balance while you sleep.

Where to read the detail

The settings reference is in the world toggles documentation, and the way beats interact with a character's own initiative is under the director.

Questions

Do the characters act on their own?
In a living world, yes. Characters take beats between the reader's turns and the scene moves without input. It is off by default and can be paused at any time.
Will it write my character for me?
No. Beats are narrated as events in the world, never as the reader's own turn.
