Stories are long-form prose with optional multi-voice narration. Reading and listening are open to everyone, including signed-out visitors. Writing one needs an account.
The two tabs
- Published: The public catalogue. Filter by search, tags, featured and community-made, same as Explore.
- My Stories: Everything you own, at any status. Only shown to signed-in accounts.
On a story page
- Read or listen: Where audio exists, the reader highlights each word as it is spoken and lets you click a line to jump there. Playback speed and volume are adjustable.
- Like: Signed-in accounts only.
- Comments: Opens in a dialog. A comment inherits the rating of the story it is on.
- Share: Uses your device share sheet, falling back to copying the link.
- Download: Exports a watermarked local copy.
- Edit · Delete: Owner only.
Published versus draft, and the part that trips people up
A story carries a status (Draft, Published, Archived) and a separate public switch. The public catalogue filters on the public switch, not on the status. Setting the status to Published does not publish anything. Ticking the public switch does. Source: the public list filters on is_public and rating only (worker/src/hive/data.ts:251).
A story rated for restricted content is refused to viewers who are not verified for it, and shows a dedicated notice instead. See Content ratings and moderation.
