Hand a character, scenario, modifier or lore pack to one person with a link, without publishing it.
Publishing puts something in front of everyone. Sharing puts it in front of the people you send it to. The Share button sits on every card dialog, on your Library cards, and in the chat menu next to the character you are talking to.
Two kinds of link
- A published item: The link is just its address. Anyone can open it, no account needed to look.
- A private item: You create a link first: a one-off key that opens that one item and nothing else. Only you can create it, and you can turn it off whenever you like.
What the link does when they open it
- Show the card: They see what it is and choose: start a chat, save it, or close the tab. This is the default.
- Start a chat: Straight into the conversation. Good for handing a character to one person, less good for posting into a group.
What the recipient can do with it
The switch is worth thinking about. With copying off, they can open and play with it while the link lives; turn the link off and their access goes with it. With copying on, what they took is theirs to keep.
- Start a chat: Always. A character opens a chat directly; a scenario, modifier or lore pack opens the chat setup with it already chosen.
- Add to Library: Published items only. It saves a reference, so the creator's later edits reach you.
- Save my own copy: Private links, when you leave Let them keep a copy on. They get their own private copy to edit. The original is never touched.
What a link does not do
Creating a link on a private item runs it through the same content check that publishing does, because it is going in front of someone who did not write it. If that check flags it, the item's content rating is raised and it stays gated from then on.
- It does not put the item in Explore, in search, or in anyone's feed.
- It does not skip age verification. Restricted content stays refused to a viewer who is not verified for it, link or no link. See Content ratings and moderation.
- It does not open anything else you own. One link, one item.
Turning a link off
Open Share on the item again. The sheet shows how many times the link has been opened and a Turn this link off control. Anyone holding the old link then gets told it was turned off, rather than a dead end. Deleting the item turns its links off too.
Pressing Share twice gives you the same link, not a second one, so the list of live keys stays something you can actually reason about.
